This is an unvarnished look at homeschooling in our household. The children's birth years are Faith '00, Abby '01, Bede '03, Gilbert '04, Trixie '06, and Gloria '08. There are two babies as well, Dorothy '12 and Clementine '14. Bede is a special case because he is autistic, with the attendant spiky developmental profile that goes with that. His academic development is all over the map.
We have always homeschooled with no particular style or agenda. Starting around age 8, I keep them at or above grade level in reading and math and other subjects tend to take care of themselves. I value interest driven learning over almost everything else in our homeschooling, but I believe my children can best follow their interests with a good foundation to build them on. So we are unschool-friendly although we are not unschoolers. Likewise, since I think an external foundation for my kids' education is helpful, we are also structured-homeschool-friendly.
But we ourselves do not fit neatly into any boxes and we're okay with that.
Oh, and our blog name is what we call our house in the woods. It is a play on words from the Salve Regina "post hoc exsilium".
